Review: Ooh Cha Cha

Whenever I travel to a new city, the first thing on my to-do list is to scout out the local health food scene. ‘Raw’, ‘vegan’ & ‘organic’ are all music to my ears, and stepping off the busy streets into the air-conditioned haven of whole foods cafe makes my heart melt :’)

For this reason, discovering Ooh Cha Cha made my day. I can’t actually take the credit for finding this one – my wonderful boyfriend took me there for dinner last week, and I’m SO glad he did.


Tucked away just off NanChang Road, it feels quiet and peaceful, but is actually just a stone’s throw from Guting MRT (exit 2). Best of all – for fellow 师大 students out there – its literally 5 minutes from campus, so the perfect place for a quick lunch before class!

The space itself is airy and light, a really lovely place to relax. Also, they serve their delicious juices and smoothies in those quintessential mason jars with stainless steel straws like a true Californian health food cafe :’)

Their menu, in Chinese and English, is full of the usual favourites: green smoothies, macro bowls, raw vegan deserts and a wide selection of sandwiches.

I’m a big fan of their ‘kind bowls’ – three different varieties of the macro bowl, which are so popular on the health food scene at the moment.  This is the Friendly Macro(biotic) Bowl: brown rice/quinoa, wakame, kim chee, baby greens, buckwheat sprouts, oven-baked tempeh with a delicious miso tahini ginger dressing (in cute tiny jars!)

2015-07-09 20.38.01-1The kimchee was incredible – I must see if I can get the recipe off them before I head back to the UK!

I also tried the Tofu Bahn Mi sandwich, which did not disappoint. At just 140NTD (less than £3!), it makes for a quick, cheap and healthy lunch on the go.

I haven’t tried their raw deserts yet, but with a menu that promises raw banana swirl cream cake and mocha fudge pie, I’m sure it won’t be long…


Overall, I am a huge fan of this place and will be making many, many visits this summer. It’s really encouraging to see cafés advocating an appreciation of wholesome and delicious plant-based foods all over the world.
